Hi, sorry for the delay!

The availability of equipment which can be used to collect samples varies. There are a few bulk packs of smaller tools, such as scalpels, clean swabs and syringes available, but some of these packs will also be missing or will have been damaged beyond use in the crash. Specimen containers can be found, but will be in shorter supply, many of them having been destroyed. Packs of disposable gloves can also be found.

Medical's general scanners, if powered, can detect if an individual has been poisoned, but determination of what the poison is would be done through sample testing. There are some portable devices for toxicity testing, but these are designed specifically for detecting alcohol levels or presence of common narcotics. Testing for an unknown toxic agent would be done much the same as it is now, but was not considered to be a high risk for the Tranquility's journey, and so medical only have a small stock of appropriate equipment.

There is a salvageable supply of plates for thin-layer chromatography, but much of the store of visualisation reagents will have been damaged, putting them at very short supply. Characters will also have to improvise the proper containment to prevent contamination from the environment during testing, as well as for the safe dispersal of fumes. Improvisation will also be necessary in the levels of reagents used and analysis of results if testing is done on direct samples, rather than those taken from a patient.

For general analysis of chemicals in any sample, there is a singular HPLC-MS machine which can be salvaged from medical. This will be more compact and a little faster than current modern standards, but will still need to be supplied with solvents (a small supply of which can be found in medical), containers to collect waste, and quite a bit of power. Characters will also not have access to a database to compare the results to, and will essentially have to begin building their own.

Please let us know if you have any further queries or need more clarification on any of this!
